MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. — The Mohave Valley community is mourning the tragic loss of Richard Anthony Cruz, 39, who died following an ATV collision early Saturday morning, August 8, 2026.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 5:09 a.m. to an area north of Kingsley Street and Dike Road after receiving a report of an all-terrain vehicle crash.
When deputies arrived, they found the ATV overturned on its side. A male and female occupant were at the scene and alerted authorities that another man was trapped underneath the vehicle and possibly deceased. Deputies located the third occupant and confirmed that he had succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
The deceased man was later identified as Richard Anthony Cruz, 39, of Mohave Valley.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team responded and took over the investigation. According to investigators, the occupants had reportedly been consuming alcohol earlier in the evening before deciding to take the ATV out for a nighttime ride.
A passenger reportedly told investigators that Cruz was driving when the ATV accelerated and he lost control. The vehicle overturned, ejecting two of the male occupants. Another male passenger sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities indicated that alcohol, speed and the lack of restraints appear to have been contributing factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials may release additional information as they continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
For those who knew Richard, however, his death represents much more than the details of a tragic accident. At 39, he leaves behind family members, friends and loved ones who are now facing the painful reality of his sudden absence.
